The Alberta Rose is so excited to welcome back Lizz Winstead for what is sure to be yet another amazing night of some of the best political comedy in the country. This incredible satirist gives her brilliant take on all the latest news with an amazing razor sharp wit, which helped shape _The Daily Show _and Air America Radio.
Lizz’s comedy is as up-to-the minute as the news itself. From the clown car of GOP hopefuls, to birth control and Obama, nothing and no one is exempt from her hilarious and scathing observations. If you are looking for a much needed catharsis from the madness of the world and feel like the state of our union is in quite a state, then Lizz Winstead is exactly what you are looking for.
And to make the evening even more special, Lizz will close out the night with a book reading and signing from her first collection of essays,_ Lizz Free Or Die,_ which was released May 10th, 2012. It is a droll and dark collection that has been called, “shrewdly observant, linguistically adept, bravely soul-baring,and caustically smart.” Funny and biting, honest and poignant, this no-holds-barred collection gives an in-depth look into the life of one of today’s most influential comic voices. In writing about her childhood longing to be a priest, her role in developing The Daily Show, and of her often problematic habit of diving into everything head first, asking questions later (resulting in multiple rescue-dog adoptions and travel disasters), Lizz Winstead has tapped an outrageous and heartfelt vein of the all-too-human comedy.
As one of the top female political satirists working today, this rare Portland performance from Winstead will be an evening you will not want to miss.
Lizz Winstead’s talents as a comedian and media visionary have been recognized by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Entertainment Weekly’s 100 Most Creative People issue. She’s made numerous television appearances, including Comedy Central Presents, as well as regular commentary on MSNBC, CNN and Current TV. Winstead is also a regular contributor to The Guardian and _The Huffington Post. _
Lizz wrote, produced and starred an independent pilot of her Off-Broadway hit, Wake Up World, a show Rachel Maddow called, “The funniest thing I have seen in years.” A tireless advocate for women’s rights, since June of 2011, Winstead has dedicated her time embarking on a sold out comedy tour to benefit Planned Parenthood with 21 shows under her belt and counting. Smear Campaign, the documentary of her tour, is in production, slated for release in late 2012.
Her first book, Lizz Free or Die, a collection of personal essays, was released in May 2012 by Riverhead Books.
