Catch a concert by two of the nation's finest bluegrass musicians when Rob Ickes and Jim Hurst play Portland's Alberta Rose Theatre. Ickes, a native of the San Francisco area, started playing the dobro at the age of 13, and became a founding member of acclaimed bluegrass band Blue Highway in 1994. He won the International Bluegrass Music Association's Dobro Player of the Year award for the eleventh time in 2009 -- a record not only for dobro players, but for any instrumentalist. He's released more than a dozen solo and band albums, and appeared on multiple Grammy-winning recordings, including Alison Krauss & The Cox Family's I Know Who Holds Tomorrow
. Guitarist and singer Jim Hurst is known for his flawless blend of flat-picking and finger-style techniques. He's toured and recorded with Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, Claire Lynch and The Front Porch String Band, David Grisman and more. The IBMA Guitar Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002, Hurst is one of the most uniquely talented performers in the bluegrass field today.
