Portland Center Stage brings you the latest work from playwright Elizabeth Heffron, who, play after play (New Patagonia, Her Mother Was Imagination, Mitzi's Abortion), has been building one of the most arresting portraits of working-class life in America. Bo-Nita just might be Heffron's most skillful and moving work yet. Life's not easy for Bo-Nita -- it never is for a 13-year-old, especially one who has a dead, semi-ex-stepfather on her bedroom floor. Bo-Nita's name is hyphenated because, according to her mother, "hyphens are all about hanging on and keeping things together." Humor, pathos and a dash of Midwest magical realism combine to make Bo-Nita's journey all the more affecting as she and her mother work to stay together -- and out of jail. Learn More
