Though he's frequently compared to the likes of luminaries such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison, singer-songwriter Grant-Lee Phillips has somehow kept his cult-favorite status and musical integrity intact. He's been at it for more than 25 years, and came close to superstardom with his '90s band, Grant-Lee Buffalo ("Jupiter and Teardrop," "Mockingbirds," "Truly, Truly"). He's gone on to a highly regarded solo career, carrying over his knack for intense lyrical narratives and a wide range of musical sounds and textures, from rootsy pedal-steel guitars to rolling synthscapes.
