Quotes & Highlights
“Mr. Nock, a clown for whom this year’s Big Apple show is named (Bello Is Back!), is not just a seventh-generation circus performer, but also a new genre of entertainer unto himself. Since the age of 15, he has maintained a signature appearance: his sheaf-of-wheat, foot-tall red hair, baggy tuxedo and two-tone shoes. He juggles, does trampoline and trapeze work, performs handstands on 60-foot sway poles, walks and rides motorcycles across high wires, and has even hung off a trapeze under a helicopter — all the while making audiences laugh with his brilliantly comic timing and gusto.” —_The New York Times _
“Amazing performances. . . Genuine humor. . . Friendly and intimate! This is one terrific troupe.” —The New York Times
“Heart-stopping! Bello’s antics and daredevil skills are even more impressive in the single ring.” —_Boston Globe _
It seems like only yesterday that this daredevil clown made his hair-raising New York debut with the Big Apple Circus. He’s been a big star all over the world ever since and was named “America’s Best Clown” by Time Magazine.
Bello is joined by a world of stellar circus stars: Spain’s juggling artiste, Picaso Jr.; Russia’s Aniskin Troupe who catapult to the top of the tent by trampoline and soar across it on trapeze. For sheer beauty, our very own aerialist, Regina Dobrovitskaya, rises through the air on shimmering ribbons. Equestrians Christine and Sultan will get your heart pounding as they straddle galloping horses Roman-style, and wait till you see what the company members can do with a pack of whacky dogs rescued from shelters!
This year’s performers hail from America, Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, England, France, Germany, Italy and Russia.
About the Ticket Supplier: Big Apple Circus
As a leading presenter of family entertainment and a not-for-profit performing arts institution, our nationwide performances and community programs have made our 34-year history far-reaching and full.
It all began in Kent, England, in 1974, when American entertainers and Big Apple Circus co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen became juggling partners and took to the street corners of Europe. Their comedic juggling act was a hit, and they soon found themselves on the stage of the presitigous Nouveau Cirque de Paris. They returned home to America in 1976 with a vision: to entertain and improve the lives of millions. One year later, they found a site for the first tent-raising in Battery Park, New York, and went on to create the award-winning, not-for-profit Big Apple Circus.
