Boozy and burned-out university professor Dr. Frank Bryant needs to earn some extra cash to support his expensive alcohol habit, so he agrees to tutor Rita, a brash, free-spirited young hairdresser trying desperately to better herself. The result is British playwright Willy Russell's delightful Pygmalion-style comedy Educating Rita, with Frank playing Henry Higgins to Rita's modern-day Eliza Doolittle. Each has a profound effect on the other, opening up new possibilities for their lives. This touching and comical show explores the transformational nature of education -- which can often come from the most unlikely of teachers. Learn More

This is authentic community theatre. Some of the performances were quite good (especially the girl in the title role), but others were somewhat wooden (particularly the gentile landlord). The set made an interesting use of space and portrayed well what the Franks' crowded quarters were like. This is such an important story that it merits being staged over and over again.
