Here's the deal about THIS particular production: it was a heartwarming, well intentioned community piece of performance art. It educated people as the piece is intended to do and entertained the audience. But for me, although the idea of having a diverse group of women who are not professional actors & of different ages and ethnicities perform the individual stories is a noble concept, it did not hold me as it has other times that I've seen it. It's a production that has been around for some time now and many people like me have seen it performed by professional actors. The comparison is bound to hit you if you fall into that category.Written on Apr 14 2010
For anyone brand new to The Vagina Monologues, it is always a good thing to see a production of it. Each story and character can sink under your skin and days later - even months or years later - there are pieces one can recall and relish ever having heard that woman's story.
I appreciated the opportunity to support a community cause & watch this group performance in such an interesting and lovely venue. The hardness of the seats however left me feeling like I'd never attend another event there that required sitting for more than a few minutes to rest. Those were about the worst I've experienced in a long time!
I applaud the women who spent the hours of practice and energy to deliver material that is timeless and so important. Misogyny is probably the number one killer of all our lives in so many ways. Thank you for helping to bring this topic out into the Richmomd community for one night ;-)

The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler--the performance was a benefit for Community Violence Solutions. Caring attitude from Director Kathy McCarty, her production team, and members in the cast (women of all ages and diverse cultures from the community); audience was gracious; folks from Community Violence Solutions showed dedication. A memorable experience.Written on Apr 13 2010

Description
Women from the entire East Bay unite to join V-Day 2010 Richmond. Performers and activists in The Vagina Monologues come from a variety of occupations: real estate agents, newspaper editor, retired school teacher, biological science tech, acupuncturist, Target cashier, national hotel executive, National Park ranger, web programmer, fragrance executive and housewife.
"Somehow the Craneway Pavillion seems an appropriate venue," said Clay David, who is helping to produce The Vagina Monologues. The venue is in the Rosie the Riveter National Park, he explained. "The V-Day Movement possesses a very 'We Can Do It' grassroots effort. It’s a movement that started small, in colleges throughout the Country, and it’s done magnificent work.”
Proceeds from the Richmond production of The Vagina Monologues will go to Community Violence Solutions (CVS).
Since 1974, CVS has served as the umbrella organization for Rape Crisis of Contra Costa and Marin Counties, while providing a wide range of services to child and adult victims of sexual violence, their families and the community.
V-Day Until the Violence Stops is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls worldwide. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery.
