The Hermitage Piano Trio plays trios by Rachmaninoff, Mendelssohn and Alyabiev in a performance at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington. Founded in 2011, the group unites three of Russia's most acclaimed soloists: violinist Misha Keylin, cellist Sergey Antonov and pianist Misha Mogilevsky. All three have won international competitions and performed as soloists with the world's greatest orchestras, and playing together drives them to new heights of musicality. The program includes Sergei Rachmaninoff's emotionally gripping Trio No. 2, subtitled "Elégiaque" and written in memory of Tchaikovsky, as well as Mendelssohn's Trio No. 1, a sparkling four-movement work which is considered one of Mendelssohn's greatest chamber pieces, and the Piano Trio by musical pioneer Alexander Alyabiev, perhaps the first work of its kind by a Russian composer.
