For 40 years, singer-songwriter Shuggie Otis has enjoyed one of the most influential and enigmatic careers in music. The son of legendary R&B bandleader Johnny Otis, Shuggie quickly proved to be a musical prodigy. When he was only 21, he released Inspiration Information
, an album that quickly became a cult favorite among fans and fellow musicians, including David Byrne who re-released the record on his Luaka Bop label in 2001. Ironically, it was soon after a cover of his song "Strawberry Letter 23" went to No. 1 that Shuggie dropped out of the music business altogether. Except for some rare appearances, the elusive musician has kept a low profile while appreciation for his music has continued to grow. Only now, as Sony releases Inspiration Information
once again, is Otis mounting the stage for a series of rare public performances, including this concert at Harlow's.
