The '70s installment of Wilson's renowned cycle of 10 plays depicting African-American life in the 20th century, Jitney tells the stories of a ragtag group of men working in a Pittsburgh jitney cab company where tensions run high as the city threatens to shut it down. There's the motor-mouthed Turnbo, who meddles in the lives of his fellow drivers; Youngblood, a Vietnam War veteran, and his girlfriend Rena; Shealy, a numbers-taker who uses the station as his base; and Becker, the station owner, who has other things to worry about: His son Booster is about to be released from prison after 20 years. I read the book last year and had trouble following the story. But seeing the play performed LIVE helped me understand the characters and their relationship with each other. All the actors did a fantastic job!! I would definitely recommend this play.
Due to mature content, this show is not recommended for anyone under the age of 18.
