The Psychedelic Furs: Pioneering New Wave Band Fuses Punk and Poetry
The Psychedelic Furs, one of the most riveting -- and influential -- bands to emerge from the '80s New Wave scene, continues their epic musical journey with a concert at Assembly. Led by singer Richard Butler and his bassist brother Tim, the Furs' sound emerged from the British post-punk scene of the late '70s. After more than 30 years of performing, the band has an incredibly deep catalog of songs, but may be best known known for "Pretty in Pink," which director John Hughes used in his movie of the same name. With their Top 40 hit "Heartbreak Beat" and timeless tunes like "Love My Way" and "Heaven," the Furs have influenced and inspired generations of alt-rockers. The Burning of Rome, described by Paste Magazine as "gypsy punk rife with keys and rasping vocals," is set to open.
