Legend has it that Sidney Poitier was so moved by the story of The Lilies of the Field that he waived his usual salary -- not knowing he would later win worldwide fame (and an Oscar) for his portrayal of the hard-headed Homer Smith. From the moment it was published as a novel by William E. Barret, The Lilies of the Field has had a special effect on people. Experience it yourself when Open Window Theatre presents this heart-warming stage adaptation. Headed west in search of a new beginning in the mid-1950s, black Southern Baptist itinerant worker Homer Smith encounters a group of Catholic nuns scratching out an existence in the remote Southwest. Mother Maria Marthe, convinced that Homer was sent to them by God to build them a chapel, persuades him to stay (without pay) and take on this seemingly impossible task. The faith of all are tested, proving that friendships and miracles alike come in all forms. Learn More
I was told, if you are part of a large group, you can opt for a buffet dinner before the show but this is not an option for an individual or a small group. There is a concession stand for drinks and popcorn. You can bring your drinks inside the theatre.dining • Jul 09 2013 star this tip starred

The actors/actresses were absolutely fantastic. Laughed, booooooooo..d and hissed, and cheered for the heroes in the play (of which there were several). Very professionally done. Each of the olios and interludes were well done and fit in to the "times". Staging was outstanding. These players will graduate and move on to London, Park Square Theater, New York, etc see them HERE, NOW!!!
Recommended for audiences ages 8 and older, the show runs approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission.
