The University of Minnesota Showboat Players present the classic romantic melodrama, The Vampire!, a gothic tale adapted for the stage in the 1820s and based on the novel that kicked off a vampire craze that spread all across Europe. Presented in true vaudevillian style, this production has it all, including romance, a damsel in distress, swashbuckling swordfights and high adventure on the Scottish moors. This journey into the theatrics of days past is produced by the same team that put together the previous hits of summers past, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Count of Monte Cristo. The team has carefully researched 19th century theater techniques to create an authentically old-fashioned experience, using time-honored theatrical devices to reproduce howling storms and ghostly apparitions. To complete the tradition, the audience is invited to express their feelings by booing and hissing the bad guys and cheering on the heroes.

Such a fun show full of laughter and suspense. The talent of the cast and crew was astonishing. I could tell the actors were having fun and I wish there was more melodrama around the cities. Will definitely be seeing this again!

This is such a fun show. Loved the Olio's between scenes too. It's not everyday that you can see an old fashioned play on a steam boat. Who knew there was a play about a Scottish Vampire. Looked like the actors were having a ton of fun with this show. Very detailed scenery, excellent costumes. Great summertime entertainment.
