The Master Chorus Eastside spreads tidings of joy, honoring both of the wintertime holidays that celebrate light, in a seasonal concert featuring a new work by composer and University of Washington professor emeritus Abraham Kaplan. For the ensemble's tribute to Christmas, they'll sing traditional carols like "The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy," "Fum Fum Fum," and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," along with famed choral composer Morten Lauridsen's O Nata Lux.
The Jewish holiday comes to life with the debut of Kaplan's Eight Days of Chanukah
, which reflects melodies from his childhood in Israel, along with liturgical texts and rabbinical poetry. Kaplan will be on hand to discuss the work 20 minutes before the concert.
