Great Energy and Music. Played to and connected with the crowd.
I actually ended up not seeing this event. When we got there, we found out that it was a "dance party" and there was no seating. Standing only !!!!
So....it was not a concert, as indicated.
I guess I was too old for this venue.....very very noisy, no seating....packed in like sardines. Had seen Hot Auguest Nights at San Juan Mission and loved it. We enjoyed it soooo much that when I saw this on Gold Star I thought "How lucky"....Not. Mary Costanza
This event was GREAT! The only thing is they didn't say anything about there being no seats in the theater. It was standing only. Not too bad once the concert started but waiting for it to start was a long time standing around.
Sequined shirts, and a Las Vegas style band dazzle you with sights and sounds of an actual Neil Diamond concert.
Dean was born and raised in the Los Angeles area of Southern California; he attended the University of Southern California as a pre-med student in the late 1970's and early 1980's, while working as an Emergency Room Technician. However, Dean's true passion was writing, singing and performing. And so the story goes.
Dean Colley sang and played guitar in a variety of rock & roll bands for 20+ years. The "Hot August Night!" concept, and the incentive to move in a new direction, were the product of two catalysts: First, a litany of comments on Dean's resemblance to Neil Diamond, including a strong baritone like Diamond: Secondly, a piece of advice from a concert promoter who had watched Dean develop as an artist for several years. "You should do a Neil Diamond tribute!"
Dean assembled an initial 30 plus song set of Diamond classics, auditioned band members, and then plunged headfirst into rehearsals. Hot August Night! Introduced itself to the general public in 1998, during a self-produced concert at the Ontario Convention Center, Ontario California. 500 people witnessed the first 2 hour show Dean ever performed, which was recorded, mixed, and used as a promotional CD.
Hot August Night! A Tribute to Neil Diamond starring Dean Colley has since performed in Las Vegas, Reno, and Laughlin Nevada, Oregon, and through out Southern California at local fairs, clubs, casinos, concerts in the park, and fundraisers.
