Community Actors Theatre commemorates Black History Month with the musical revue Big Daddy Returns. Hot on the heels of last year's hugely popular Big Daddy Is Here, this musical celebration takes audiences back in time, to the beginnings of blues, jazz and pop. The numbers, spanning the eras between the 1930s to present day, cover every emotion from sorrow to elation and pay tribute to such artists as "Big Daddy" Muddy Waters, Nat King Cole, Sammie Davis Jr., Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Carmen McRae, Etta James, Billy Holiday, Nina Simone and more. Be moved and be grooved!

Newroz Piroz: An "Almost Comedy" About Kurds, Turks and Armenians

Full Price:

Our Price:

Community Actors Theatre presents its 2012-13 season opener, Tanya Fuad's Newroz Piroz. Newroz is the Kurdish New Year and marks a time of music, dancing, colorful dress and festivity. But beyond the celebration, Newroz also represents Kurdish pride, solidarity and freedom, for the holiday was banned until 2005 in Turkey, along with several other measures to banish the Kurdish cultural identity. Newroz Piroz is based loosely on a real party from the author's personal experience. Tariq, a Kurd, is throwing a party for Newroz, but only two of his friends are Kurds, while the rest are Kurds and Armenians. The resulting celebration is a humorous yet complex look into the intricacies of friendship, politics and complexities of identity when cultures with long and often tragic interrelated histories come together and attempt to move beyond the past. I loved this show. It was a walk down memory lane. I took
my mother and my husband. Each of us walked away with not only great memories from our past but with a rich history of who the artist was. And special praise to the"Queen of Soul" and "Etta James"

The play flowed real well and we learned a lot about history, which was great. Some of the singers in the play were better than others; still I give an "A" for effort. I love the intimate setting in the theater and am encouraging others that I know in the community to attend.
