Blues, Booze and Attitude: A Toe-Tapping Musical from Community Actors Theatre
Community Actors Theatre presents the one-man musical Blues, Booze and Attitude. With music by Tommy Dodson and lyrics by Curtis W. Long, this Prohibition-era piece features funky, foot-pounding piano foolery, tear-inducing sentiment and soul-searching gospel music. It follows choir director Thad Johnson as he struggles with the contradiction of his alter ego, Spats Dollar, a bawdy house piano plunker who surreptitiously displays his talents nightly in a local house of ill-repute. On Sundays, he plays and conducts the choir at a nearby Baptist Church. The parishioners, including Spats' grandmother, are quite judgmental, and he lives in fear of being exposed.
