City Ballet's season closer not only brings the beautiful Act II of Swan Lake to the stage for Mother's Day weekend, but also presents the world premiere of resident choreographer Elizabeth Rowe Wistrich's work set to Mozart's "Requiem," featuring the acclaimed dance company, a 100-voice chorus, vocal soloists and the live City Ballet Orchestra. This spectacular new piece forgoes a literal staging of the text, for a more powerful movement-based interpretation of the emotions in each of its 12 sections. Learn More

Carmina Burana was one of the best performances I've ever seen of anything, and this from a former Metropolitan Opera Subscription holder. Music/orchestra, gorgeous. Choreography, exceptional. Dancers, wonderful. Costumes, fabulous. Chorus/choir stunningly beautiful. Didn't know we had this kind of talent in San Diego. A memoralbe evening. The only issue was that we almost did not get in. The lady at will call was distracted with her friend's earrings. She turned away from us to admire them and talk to her. She could not find us on the Goldstar list, even though I had the Golstar receipt in hand. She just didn't really care. Had no interest in providing customer support. She had the attention span of a gnat and maybe the intelligece as well. . She offered an enfeebled--well, you will have to make a phone call etc. We finally insisted on her attention as curtain time was fast approaching, and she went through her entire package of pages and found us. Fire this bunch! With help as insultingly pathetic the performance would have to be spectacular to erase this entrance. If this persists, no one will be able to get into see the performances. My nine year old granddaughters are friendlier and have more focus than these ditsy broads. Patrons keep these performances in business-- if you want to excess over your friends jewelry, take her to coffee sometime. I know a bunch of teenagers who are looking for part time job! We were told she was a Ballet employee, so no criticism to Goldstar, with whom I am very grateful for allowing me to get tickets to this terrific evening.
