Virtuoso Guitarist Tommy Emmanuel Returns to Balboa Theatre

Full Price:
$30.00
Our Price:
$15.00

Tommy Emmanuel, voted Best Acoustic Guitarist in Guitar Player magazine's 2010 Reader's Choice Awards, and star of a 2011 PBS special recorded live on this very stage, returns for another exciting evening of virtuoso guitar playing. A two-time Grammy nominee, the Australian Emmanuel uses an uncommon ten-fingered style -- known as Travis picking -- first popularized by the legendary Chet Atkins, who counts himself as among Emmanuel's greatest fans. Atkins even named Emmanuel a Certified Guitar Player, one of only a handful ever to receive that honor. He's also played alongside greats like Eric Clapton and Les Paul. Don't miss this amazing musician's live performance, recommended for everyone age 6 and older. Learn More

This event was wonderful. Our only regret was being 2nd balcony. Next time we will bring binoculars. It would be nice to be offered a price and better seat the next time so we have the opportunity of sitting closer.

All of the performers were all very talented and gifted. Many sang and played an instrument. All of the band played at least 2 different instruments so the talent was all there. What was missing for me was they were all so choreographed that they really appeared almost robotic. Every move was what they were told to do and did not provide the freedom to show there personalities. Examples of this are how they held their hands, to what X they were on the stage, to what stair step they sat at was all premeditated. But as I said they are all very talented....

Description

The incredibly talented Irish and Scottish group Celtic Thunder bring their “Take Me Home Fall 2009 Tour” to the Balboa Theatre in San Diego.

Two months after Celtic Thunder’s CD Take Me Home debuted at #1 on Billboard’s (US) Top World Album chart, the group hailed by The New York Times as “a Fab Five peddling Celtic stylings” performed throughout the day at QVC’s “Rose of Tralee” Irish celebration and, as a result, sold a record breaking 10,000 copies of a special collection, Celtic Thunder: Act Two CD and The Show DVD, both of which were released on Decca Records in 2008. The phenomenon that is Celtic Thunder has achieved sales approaching 500,000 copies of their combined releases to date, and remain in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top World Albums a year after their #1 debut.

This October the group will stage a brand new production for Public Television entitled Celtic Thunder “Storm” at the International Center in Toronto. The DVD from this show is scheduled for broadcast on the Public Television network in March 2010, alongside a new CD release of Storm

The “Take Me Home Fall 2009 Tour,” is an extensive trek across North America in support of their new Decca Records album. Take Me Home was recorded live at Toronto’s Casino Rama and features the group’s signature takes on hit songs including “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, the Josh Groban classic “You Raise Me Up,” “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers, and many more.

The highly anticipated North American trek is the second full fledged US tour for the group whose 48 city itinerary last year earned the #20 spot on Pollstar’s top tours of 2008.
