A wedding toast turns into a one-man virtuoso performance of the greatest Jewish play of all time in The Dybbuk (for Hannah and Sam's Wedding). Multiple Drama Critics Circle Award-winner (and acclaimed multi-character actor) Ron Campbell makes his highly anticipated return to San Diego in this staged reading of the timeless, chilling story of love and exorcism about a young Jewish woman possessed by the wandering spirit of her predestined -- and deceased -- husband. Adapted from Jewish playwright S. Ansky's seminal work and directed by Todd Salovey, the performance features haunting music composed and performed by Yale Strom and members of Hot Pstromi. A Corrido is a dramatic story told in song, dance and image – a unique fusion of music, theatre, opera, mime and comedy. While the title is Spanish, the songs and stories come from the Latino, African American, Asian, Portuguese and French cultures, using both traditional and contemporary material and music. The world premiere of Corridos REMIX is a 21st century fusion of story and song that transcends cultural barriers and celebrates global music from a rainbow of cultures and traditions including Mexican and Asian, with world music, rock & roll and folk as well as traditional Corridos. The revue-style show focuses on the “American Experience” as a grandfather looks to pass on the tradition and the history to his sometimes unwilling granddaughter. In addition to the recognizable contemporary music, the show includes stories of love and passion – the so-called narco-corrido, the legend of John Henry, and the story of Mulan.
The production will include the use of super-titles.
