Grammy-nominated pianist Mona Golabek pays moving tribute to her pianist mother -- a survivor of the Holocaust and the London Blitz -- in this hit concert drama directed by audience favorite Hershey Felder. Golabek, seated onstage at the piano, performs some of the world's most beloved piano music while sharing harrowing true tales of her mother's life. As a young Jewish pianist in 1938 Vienna, Golabek's mother, Lisa Jura, dreamt of a concert debut at the storied Musikverein concert hall. But when she was swept up in the Kindertransport to London in an attempt to be protected from the Nazi regime, everything about Jura's life was upended -- except her love of music. The Los Angeles Times calls The Pianist of Willesden Lane "an arresting, deeply affecting triumph." Learn More
A Corrido is a dramatic story told in song, dance and image – a unique fusion of music, theatre, opera, mime and comedy. While the title is Spanish, the songs and stories come from the Latino, African American, Asian, Portuguese and French cultures, using both traditional and contemporary material and music. The world premiere of Corridos REMIX is a 21st century fusion of story and song that transcends cultural barriers and celebrates global music from a rainbow of cultures and traditions including Mexican and Asian, with world music, rock & roll and folk as well as traditional Corridos. The revue-style show focuses on the “American Experience” as a grandfather looks to pass on the tradition and the history to his sometimes unwilling granddaughter. In addition to the recognizable contemporary music, the show includes stories of love and passion – the so-called narco-corrido, the legend of John Henry, and the story of Mulan.
The production will include the use of super-titles.
