Moxie's "Dog Act" was a fantastic, fascinating, fast-moving tale of a post-apocalyptal world where language has imploded upon itself and customs and traditions and dogmas (hehe) have been re-invented. Think "Mad Max" on the small stage. Interesting premise well developed. Great script effectively delivered. Considering(and despite) the premise, I found the characters believable. Don't attend this show if four letter words make your ears bleed, as this one takes the "F-word" to a new scale. I didn't find the foul language offensive, just extrinsic. The manipulation of language, apart from that, was captivating...for lack of a better word...Three paws up!

Dog Act has a fantastic sci-fi literary quality which reminds me of Russell Hoban's "Riddley Walker", "Clockwork Orange" and with a spare minimalistic stage design of Beckett's psychological, existentialist, alternate realities. However the quality of the language, the acting and characterization is so delightful and surprising that my imagination was happily filling in numerous of the blank zones offered by this both spare and rich production. Check it out if any of the above interests you. Excellent Work Moxie!

This is a really cute play with a lot of interesting and complex touches. It takes place in post-apocolyptic america, following a cart-drawn vaudevillian troop of two moving east through the woods, who meet the other kooky and dangerous characters along the way. I loved the plays on modern language and the musical performances (especially the morphed version "Amazing Grace"!). The lives these characters lead are dark, tough, and tragic, but the tone of the play is lighthearted and playful, and it has a bright ending for everyone. Very charming and funny.
