The timeless battle between Lucifer's forces of evil and Michael the Archangel's champions of goodness is brought to thrilling life in the holiday musical La Pastorela del Cielo, San Diego's longest-running professional theater production. Now celebrating its 23rd season, this beloved Mexican-inspired holiday show is a contemporary twist on the traditional story of the shepherds' journey to Bethlehem to witness the first Christmas. An epic morality play full of ethical choices and introspection, it's presented with levity, music, beautiful costumes and dialogue written entirely in verse, much like a yuletide Dr. Seuss story. This bilingual show is performed primarily in English, with additional Christmas carols sung in Spanish. Learn More

The theater was ok...but the plays were pretty poor. I can't believe 2 of the 3 were chosen as the best out of hundreds. The last play of the 3 titled "Vicky & Bubbles" had to be the more irritating and least enjoyable short play I ever witnessed (and I love all kinds of plays!) The lead actress was loud, abrasive and very annoying. My friend and I were sitting with our hands to our face just praying she would stop talking! The dialogue was hilariously awful. And that last 3 minute speech given by the "aunt" to the lead actress was so bad it was funny! This should have been a freebie show.
Continuing its tradition of offering cutting-edge theatre and fulfilling its mission of developing top-notch theatre professionals, The Fritz Theatre is poised for another successful, entertaining and “you gotta-see-this” Fritz Blitz of new plays by California playwrights.

About the Ticket Supplier: Fritz Theatre
Since 1991, The Fritz Theatre has brought to San Diego the best of the world of theatre. Over two hundred productions have been staged, from the newest in the off-Broadway genre, to the classics by writers such as Shakespeare and Chekhov, to the more than one hundred world premieres in the Annual Fritz Blitz of New Plays by California Playwrights.
This has been accomplished despite funding cutbacks, and with an operating budget that would be insufficient for any other enterprise. The Fritz continues to excel through the effort and dedication of theatre artists and a small but fervent group of supporters, committed to producing the very best in the theatre, despite the odds.
The Fritz is currently seeking support from the community to continue the tradition of theatre excellence in downtown San Diego. Artistic Director Duane Daniels, and a thriving Board of Directors, headed by D. Candis Paule, keep a close watch on the financial and artistic direction of the theatre.
