Written on Aug 02 2011I thought this event would be backed by the video game companies. It was not. It was like playing games in someones garage. They had the same number of DJ rooms as they did gamer rooms. It was NOT a fun event. There was NO ELEVATOR in a 5 story building, this place they rented was so budget! The gaslamp gaming across from the Comic con supported by the video game companies blew this away! They should not run this event during coming con when they are put to shame so bad. Got a week long badge to this event but it was so bad I was there about a grand total of 30 minutes.
Written on Jul 26 2011I liked playing all the old games. I like that they had every gaming console so I had my choice at what one I would like to use or try out.
Written on Jul 22 2011I went to GamerCon on Tuesday evening; the 1st day of this con. The event was held in a small, shabby old building; identifiable only by the banner flying outside. The people at the check-in desk were very amiable. Each floor had a designated theme: live plays, LAN area, vintage video games, table games. I felt very uncomfortable going inside each gaming room as the place was very quiet and barely anyone was there, save for the people that were hosting the event. The video games available for play were a bit outdated. There were a few table games I was kinda interested in playing, but there was hardly anyone to play with and the rooms were so hot and stuffy I couldn't imagine myself staying in there for more than a few minutes. The only things of minor interest to me was that they were having a live performance of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog" and a rooftop party later at night, but I didn't want to stay any longer so I attended neither. However, the rooftop was very spacious with couches, heat lamps and firepits and a BBQ. I think this venue might have been better if there were a lot more people present and maybe some air-conditioning, better games.
Written on Jul 21 2011This is a NON-EVENT. There were about 5 tables and 20 people on Thursday late afternoon. It is a total rip-off. There were 4 video games TOTAL and you had to pay $20 for any upstairs events. The location was run-down. I don't recommend this at all. Not up to GoldStar quality. I'd like my money back!
Written on Jul 20 2011This is the first year of this convention, so it is still rather small and there is not a whole lot to do. But they definitely have a great idea going and the few things that they do have as of now (various gaming events - ex: PS3 games - with prizes and a room for cards and boardgames) were very exciting and fun. I recommend you go see the play GAMER. It is awesome, and if you have clue about World of Warcraft you will not stop laughing. If you know nothing about World of Warcraft you will still be laughing at the play that is in all essence making fun of gamers. As I am one, and I thought that the play was amazing!!
I would suggest this to everyone who enjoys video games, board games, and card games. It is fun for everyone who loves games in general!
