The Ken Peplowski Quartet plays as part of the Jazz in North Park Series. Peplowski has been playing the clarinet and saxophone professionally for three decades, earning the respect of his peers. He plays all types of jazz, but he's got a special affinity for the classic swing clarinet sound of players like Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman.

All the musicians were excellent. The theatre was nostalgic. What a great deal! You can't even go to a movie for $13 bucks. Looking forward to future events sponsored by Jazz 88.3FM.

Peplowski is a great jazz artist; he was backed by outstanding LA-San Diego musicians. They played well-known and little-known music from the American songbook. The acoustics at the North Park Theater are always wonderful.

Terrific evening of "cool jazz." Some familiar tunes and a number of lesser-known ones made for a stimulating combo. A talented quartet led by a talented and personable musician.

Description

Clarinetist Ken Peplowski is not only as an outstanding clarinetist and saxophone player, he’s a charismatic entertainer who has been delighting audiences for more than 30 years with his warmth, wit and musicianship. Long held in high esteem by the world’s jazz community, Peplowski is the natural successor to a long-line of fine swing clarinet players that followed Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Buddy DeFranco. But swing is only one facet of his musical personality. He’s comfortable in bebop, avant-garde and mainstream settings, having performed and recorded in all. He will be joined on this date by an all-star rhythm section of pianist Mike Wofford, bassist Tom Warrington and drummer Joe LaBarbera.
