You've always wanted to sing gorgeous classical music with a huge chorus and professional orchestra. Here's your chance! City Ballet invites all singers, and would-be singers, to sing along with the chorus to the majesty of Handel's Messiah. This is a full audience participation production backed by live musicians, a large on-stage choir and professional soloists. Written in 1751, Messiah is the most performed choral work in the English language, and for many, it is a winter holiday tradition. Bring your own score or rent one in the lobby and join the chorus. Frankly, the show was extremely irritating, due the people at the table in front of us having no concert manners or consideration of others. They talked the entire first half of the show, alternately making out. The woman was unable to sit still and bounced back and forth, playing with her date. It finally got unbearable for us during the second half of the show, when we looked forward to watching/hearing the guests, and were unable to. Deciding it would be doubly rude on my part to comment to the offending adjacent table, we left, to find seats in the grandstand.
However, being able to take and enjoy dinner at a table was nice. The Symphony is always wonderful, and fun to watch. The guest entertainers worked hard to work the crowd, to liven up the fun, and it was (could have been!) fun to hear them.
But I won't sit at the back grassy area again. It's impossible to see the stage, and the tables are so close together as to be quite uncomfortable. I do not wish to be forced to be a part of another couple's amorous adventures, or hear about their negative dreadful lives.
