This totally tubular comedy-musical, which has played at the Horton Grand since summer 2010, follows a group of friends who come of age during the 1980s, when Ronald Reagan was president, the Berlin Wall came down, and the hits of Madonna, Genesis, Sting, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson were all over the airwaves. This high-energy show features a neon-colored combo of comedy, nostalgia and a fantastic soundtrack of top '80s music, complete with a live band. Written by Jon Lorenz and Colleen Kollar Smith and directed by Kerry Meads, it's a celebration of all things Gen X that everyone can enjoy.

I LOVED this production! Very entertaining... loosely structured story follows a group from early childhood in the 80's through young adulthood, using popular 80's music. My friend and I knew almost every song. We laughed, sighed, reminisced... it was a fantastic show. Everyone in the audience seemed to have as great a time as we did. The theater is small enough where I imagine all the seats are good seats.

I enjoyed this production so much, I'm planning on getting more of my 80's survivor friends to go with me for another performance! I can see this show going on the road and becoming a must-see around the country!

It was great! Went with my boyfriend who is in love with 80's music and he loved it! It was very entertaining! Would see it again! No sense in looking for parking, park across the street in structure - only $10 when you buy a parking voucher when you pick up tickets at box office.

Description

The musical miXtape takes audiences on a seriously wild musical ride back to that most awesome of decades, featuring the greatest hits of the '80s, including music by Genesis, Madonna, Sting, U2, Oingo Boingo, The Smiths, Duran Duran, Amy Grant, Huey Lewis and the News, Depeche Mode, the B-52s, the Pointer Sisters, and Michael Jackson, among many others. Reagan was in the White House, lycra and legwarmers were the accessories du jour, and a "mixtape" of favorite tunes was the ultimate in self-expression.

A lousy economy was about to bounce back like we’d never seen, set to the synthesized beat of '80s rock. The Cold War was heating up, and with fingers on the nuclear button, the world was sure to end any moment. But for Generation X, life was just beginning. Put on your suspenders, pull out the Members Only jacket, do your hair up with a scrunchy, and "cut footloose" for this totally rad musical world premiere.
