Respect: A Musical Celebration of Women Through 100 Years of Popular Music
- Full Price:
- $52.00 - $57.00
- Our Price:
- $26.00 - $28.50
Created by Vanderbilt professor Dr. Dorothy Marcic, and based on the research for her landmark book Respect: Women and Popular Music, this musical production utilizes the last 100 years of popular music to illuminate the shifting portrayals, characterizations and roles of women -- in music and in the world at large. From Gershwin's 1926 standard "Someone to Watch Over Me" to Gloria Gaynor's 1978 hit "I Will Survive," Cyndi Lauper's 1983 smash "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and more, Respect makes for a fun, informative and thought-provoking journey through pop music and the women's rights movement, intertwining parts of more than 60 songs with real women's stories. About the Ticket Supplier: Playwrights Project
The Mission of Playwrights Project is to advance literacy, creativity, and communication by empowering individuals to voice their stories through playwriting programs and theatre productions.
Playwrights Project is a nonprofit organization devoted to arts education. Founded in 1985, Playwrights Project reaches up to 15,000 people annually through programs proven to:
* Teach the power of spoken and written language
* Nurture promising young writers
* Develop theatre artists and audiences
* Honor older individuals by dramatizing their life stories
Along with classroom programs, Playwrights Project conducts the annual California Young Playwrights Contest for writers under the age of 19, and professionally produces the winning scripts. Programs also dramatize stories from the lives of seniors, foster youth, and underserved populations and support the development of emerging playwrights.
