Members Who Went Said:Wonderful, up-close look, at the tall ships. Great narration from Maritime Museum after he got the microphone figured out! He came around and inquired about any questions we had. Tall Ships ended early and then we had a harbor tour of the shipyard area. Will do it again.
Pat McCollough We had front row seats for the parade of tall ships in conjunction with the Festival of Sail sponsored by the Maritime Museum. It was fantastic!! We will look for more events of this type in the future. It was a great adventure! We left port at 10:00 am and returned at 1:00 pm so that gave us three hours to enjoy the amazing day. The tall ships were really something. My husband took numerous photographs of ships from every angle. Would really recommend and will definitely do this again. The only down side: it was very crowded and several people had to take chairs from inside the dining room to have a seat. Also, because of our constant stop and start there were more fumes than usual. One passenger we befriended took ill because of it. |

More Details About This Event: The tall ships will descend on San Diego Bay...and here's your chance to get a great view of the parade.
The Festival of Sail kicks off with a majestic parade of tall ships on San Diego Bay on Wednesday, August 20. The festival will stretch along Harbor Drive on the Embarcadero in downtown San Diego. Ships from several different countries will give the festival an international flavor. The United States Coast Guard's tall ship Eagle, sure to be a favorite, will make her first visit to San Diego since 1999. The Eagle will be joined by other Class A tall ships: the HMS Bounty and the Gloria (from Columbia). Other participating ships for this year include Privateer Lynx, Spirit of Dana Point, HMS Surprise, Exy Johnson, California, Berkley, Curfew, Pilgrim, American Pride, America, Medea, Pilot, Irving Johnson, Seaward, Abracadabra and Stars & Stripes.
