Simply The Best Singles, the group behind upscale San Diego events for singles 40 and over, hosts a Singles New Year's Eve Soiree at Carmel Mountain Ranch Golf Club. The party will take place in the Mountain View Terrace Room, which has breathtaking 180-degree views of the mountain terrain and championship golf course, complete with elegant settings, ornate chandeliers, high vaulted ceilings, crown molding and a custom hardwood dance floor. America's Got Talent finalist Pete Peterkin and his band will keep your feet moving on that dance floor with Motown, rock 'n' roll, blues and contemporary music. Enjoy appetizers, a lock and key icebreaker game, chocolate tasting, photographs (dress in your finest and get your picture taken!), prizes, free parking and the traditional "champagne toast" at midnight -- all included in the ticket price. This New Year's Eve celebration is expected to attract a crowd of about 350 singles.

It is with great disappointment that I write this review because Goldstar events have always been a positive experience and the staff are fabulous. The Good: The event itself was well organized and you go in knowing exactly what you should wear, how much things will cost (except for the cash bar) and the staff are helpful, friendly and positive. The Bad: And I'm prefacing this because Ms. Austin has zero control over who attends these events. However, the men (I am a woman) who attended this event are few and far between, inattentive, had low, if invisible good manners and, in fact, offended some of the other women there. I left 2 hours before the event as did some other ladies I met and they were all lovely, educated, find women, but they all felt, as did I, that the men were a bunch of jerks. If you want to dress up cheaply and not age-appropriate, if you want to appear desperate and will put up with anything just to get a man to ask you to dance, if you want to feel like your body, face, appearance is all that matters, then GO. Otherwise, save your money. The music was very good, which saved me from giving this one star.Written on Jan 01 2012

The band was terrific. The lock and key thing helped to start conversations. I do wish men would not turn down a dance, only to be seen moments later with someone else. There were probably 3 women for each man. They might have to spread themselves around a bit so all can have a fun time.Written on Jan 02 2012
