The timeless battle between Lucifer's forces of evil and Michael the Archangel's champions of goodness is brought to thrilling life in the holiday musical La Pastorela del Cielo, San Diego's longest-running professional theater production. Now celebrating its 23rd season, this beloved Mexican-inspired holiday show is a contemporary twist on the traditional story of the shepherds' journey to Bethlehem to witness the first Christmas. An epic morality play full of ethical choices and introspection, it's presented with levity, music, beautiful costumes and dialogue written entirely in verse, much like a yuletide Dr. Seuss story. This bilingual show is performed primarily in English, with additional Christmas carols sung in Spanish. Learn More
The Tony award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown has said of his show, “It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice or take a stand, or turn around and go back.”
Songs for a New World transports the audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue to meet a startling array of characters. These songs are the stories of those characters on the threshold of a new world.
