Inspired by the quirky contraptions of Rube Goldberg, the industrial-themed murals of Diego Rivera and the comic slapstick of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times, this critically-acclaimed cirque show turns a factory into a high-flying funhouse as aerial artists and acrobats interact with original machines, all in an effort to build a better birdhouse. Starring veterans of the Pickle Family and Moscow Circuses, this colorful, creative combination of clowning, art and industry has both toured internationally and enjoyed a well-reviewed Off-Broadway run, and was created and directed by Chris Lashua, the originator of the German Wheel act in Cirque du Soleil's Quidam. This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening of music. I liked their program selections and the balance of the program. I took two of my grandsons, ages seven and nine, to this performance, their first trip to see a full concert. Again, I had great seats from Goldstar. I gave my boys little binoculars so they were intrigued to watch the pianos being played. The projected camera work was much appreciated. Several pieces were introduced with some background and the "story" of the piece. It was perfect and enhanced the performance. That way, both boys got the music and learned more that night. My seven year old really liked the Mephisto Waltze, especially "when the devil came in and the music got whackie". He meant bigger sound and heavy chords when the player "whacked" the keyboard. I appreciate the ability to purchase drinks and snacks at the theater and consume them in our seats. My boys are excited to see more performances there.
