The praise for Sir Tom Stoppard's masterpiece Arcadia could not be more effusive. A reviewer from The Daily Telegraph gushed, "I have never left a play more convinced that I had just witnessed a masterpiece." Whereas The Independent wondered if it might be "the greatest play of its time." The reason for such enthusiasm might be found in Stoppard's uncanny blend of brainy discussion and down-to-earth emotion. In this play alive with ideas -- about Byron, entropy, history and heat -- the human characters are never lost or diminished, but somehow made more real by their participation in a conversation that seems to span centuries. Set in a sprawling English country house, Arcadia moves between the 19th century and the present through a series of love stories, while characters from both eras discover connections, unearth mysteries and unravel hidden truths. Artistic Director Carey Perloff helms the American Conservatory Theater's dazzling new production of this modern-day masterwork. Learn More

Written on May 10 2012The four main characters, boys with cognitive disability, did a fabulous job--very believable, honest, and carried the characters well. The social worker did not seem "burned out" and know his part very well.
Written on May 09 2012Parking was not very specific. There should be more signs or someone to direct you where to park. The play was "OK" but did not enjoy it that much. I work with adults that are "special ed" and even I did not enjoy the story.
Written on May 09 2012I thought this was a wonderful depiction of what life could be like for people with these kinds of disabilities. It makes me want to visit my two mentally retarded cousins who live in a home like the one portrayed in this play. Bravo to all of the cast members!
Written on May 08 2012The boys that played the disabled characters did such a great job. They seemed to really get the mannerisms down well. I was disappointed in the quality of the stage scenery, it looked cheap. I know they must be operating on a very minimal budget, but it did not look like it was very well thought out. There should be instructions on where to park for this theater because everywhere nearby was permit only. There was a very touching scene that I will remember for a very long time...one of the characters was dancing with his love interest and it was really awkward but cute, then all of a sudden you were transported into their heads of the most perfect romantic waltz-obviously how they really were feeling inside. It was wonderful. Overall, a good show.
