More Information About The Maids

Description

Two domestic workers try to revenge themselves against society by destroying their employer. Solange and Claire fight desperately a shared and intensely private battle against a passive and oppressive existence within a figurative hall of mirrors. Filled with terror, deep sadness, and covered with a veil of the darkest humor, the play calls into question the dominant class structure and the nature of identity itself.

Nu Classic Theater is proud to make their west coast debut with Genet's The Maids at the Adams Avenue Studio of the Arts. Pulling influence from Meyerhold, Artaud, Diderot, and Sartre, this exciting, truthful and fresh production of The Maids began as a part of a festival of French plays produced at Columbia University by renowned Romanian directors Niky and Ulla Wolcz.
