CYC Theatre performs the first San Diego production of the full-score Les Misérables. This unedited production of one of the longest-running musicals in history is co-directed by Broadway's Thomas James O'Leary, the lead in Phantom of the Opera for over 1000 performances, and features a live, 40-piece orchestra and a cast combining seasoned professionals with up-and-coming performers from California Youth Conservatory. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables tells the epic tale of ex-convict Jean Valjean's struggle for redemption in 19th-century France. Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical in its original Broadway run, the lush Boublil and Schönberg score features the classic songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "One Day More" and many others. Written on Feb 07 2011The story is compelling and the songs are actually dialogue that move the play along. A unique story about friendship that all can relate to. The three of us were pulling out our kleenex remembering friends in our past. Singing was excellent. There's lots of humor too. Highly recommend! Not a bad seat in this theatre.
Written on Feb 07 2011I thoroughly enjoyed this very relevant, moving, and expressive story about two best friends. The book, lyrics, and score were fresh, new, and engrossing. The performances were stellar. The actors knew who these people they were portraying and became those people. I am so glad I was able to take in this very memorable theatrical event.
Written on Feb 01 2011A snoozer. Even though the actors had good voices, the musical score was monotonous.
Written on Jan 25 2011A great show, very well done
