Shakespeare's Spirited Romantic Romp The Taming of the Shrew
Community Actors Theatre opens its 31st season with a fast-paced, fun-filled production of Shakespeare's classic battle-of-the-sexes, The Taming of the Shrew. Hortensio is head-over-heels in love with Bianca. But her father, the wealthy Italian merchant Baptista Minola, decrees that the younger of his two daughters cannot be wed before her strong-willed, less popular and less beautiful sister, Katherina, is married. Problem is, no man in Padua will marry "Katherina the shrew." That is, until the fortune-hunting Petruchio, newly arrived from Verona, agrees to woo and wed Katherina (for a sizable dowry, of course). And the battle of the sexes begins. Singing, dancing, and other surprises add to the fun. Through a series of hilarious hi-jinks, Katherina is made to bend to her new husband's will and she reappears before her disbelieving family transformed into a new woman.
