One of Neil Simon's most memorable (yet least performed) plays, I Ought To Be In Pictures concerns struggling Los Angeles screenwriter Herbert Tucker, who abandoned his family in New York 16 years earlier. His adventurous daughter Libby arrives on his doorstep convinced that he can help jump-start her film career. After dispensing guilt and demanding love, Libby convinces Herb to take another stab at parenting, accept his responsibilities and come to terms with his on-again/off-again relationship with girlfriend Steffy. Really loved the performance and the actors. The layout of the venue (Searsucker) really lent itself in creating different "stages." The nature of the performance requires situating yourself around the performers (up close and personal) so there was a lot of audience participation!
This is a revival of last summer’s production at Space 4 Art. In association with the San Diego Guild of Puppetry, this innovative and immersive theatrical spectacle includes live music, puppets, murder, mayhem, improvisation, and a very silly horse. The Max Fischer Players are in residence at celebrity chef Brian Malarkey’s Searsucker, just named one of the forty hottest restaurants in America by Gayot. The action takes place throughout the restaurant and encourages audience interaction.
