Never a Dull Moment

Never a Dull Moment

Very enjoyable; great music, singing, dancing. Intelligent author sprinkled statements that correlate to things happening in todays economy; including the current real estate fiasco.

More Details About This Event:

Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption and love in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a malevolent company that charges for one of humanity's basic needs. A hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

While the show toys with the ridiculousness of the plot, it also presents a rather serious look on potential outcomes of some current ecological and political problems. Though lighthearted in nature, the message of Urinetown rings clear: Idealism and good intentions are insufficient responses to political and environmental problems.

With a book by Greg Kotis and music from Mark Hollman, Urinetown won three 2001 Tony Awards for Best Director, Original Score and Book of a Musical. Their music and lyrics satirize the styles of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Kander and Ebb, and many other historic composing teams, while maintaining a self-deprecating tone. The wit and tongue-in-cheek humor promise to keep audiences laughing.
