A Bay Area holiday tradition continues as American Conservatory Theater presents their beloved version of Charles Dickens' classic tale A Christmas Carol. The classic story of the miser Scrooge, who is visited by three ghosts intent on making him change his ways, features delightful music, dozens of talented actors, spectacular costumes and effects, and an abundance of holiday cheer. James Carpenter, who's attracted great critical praise for his portrayal of Scrooge, returns to the role he's played every year since 2006.

A.C.T. Performs Endgame and Play - A Beckett Double Bill

Full Price:
$25.00 - $79.00
Our Price:
$15.00 - $47.40

American Conservatory Theater performs a double bill of two outstanding plays from master playwright Samuel Beckett. Endgame and Play are a pair of absurd dark comedies that conjure a fiercely funny and emotionally gripping world. In Endgame, Tony Award winner Bill Irwin takes on the role of Hamm, who is trapped between life and death with his young servant, Clov. Together they engage in a chess match of wits in this vivid exploration of the end of life. This iconic work will be presented together with Beckett's rarely performed one-act Play, a brief comic tour de force about marriage and infidelity, featuring members of A.C.T.'s core acting company. I really wanted to love A Christmas Carol at A.C.T. It is one of my favorite stories of all time. But it was awfully blah. Not horrible, just not very good. The music is dreadful, the cast uneven, and except for Scrooge, Mrs. Dilber, and a somewhat over-the-top Marley, there just wasn't much there. It may not be the actors so much as the writing and the miscasting. Meh.
