The New Conservatory Theatre Center presents the San Francisco premiere of The Story of My Life, a funny and deeply moving musical about lifelong best friends Alvin and Thomas. As time tests the bonds of their relationship, best-selling author Thomas calls on the only resource he has -- his own stories of Alvin -- to figure out where things went wrong. Nominated for four 2009 Drama Desk awards, including Outstanding Musical, The Story of My Life pays tribute to the power of friendship, the personal cost of success, and the choices we make at the turning points of our lives. Tom Orr has done it again. With his brilliant mind and beautiful body he's put together yet another evening of well-crafted parody lyrics sung to well-known showtunes (with lots of Sondheim, of course.) In the first preview he was forgetting some of his (own) lyrics, but he handled it so well it became part of the show. Although there are some tantalizing glimpses of the Orr family jewels, the show's emphasis was not on the physical but on the cleverness and timeliness of the lyrics and the outrageous costumes.Written on Aug 28 2009
Not to be overlooked is the contribution of Scrumbly Koldewyn, his musical director, well known man-about-town, and former Cockette. This is a definite must-see for lovers of show tunes and gay humor.

Description
San Francisco's "Musical Comedy Cabaret Porn Star" and award-winning lyricist Tom Orr is back at NCTC with an all-new evening of smart, sexy, and scandalous parodies in A Crass Act. Inspired by the legendary nightclub acts of the Manhattan, Hollywood and Vegas of yore, Orr has reunited with longtime collaborative co-conspirators, director F. Allen Sawyer and musical director and accompanist Scrumbly Koldewyn to add his satirical lyrical spin to another disarray of classic showtunes with a twist. From the tails of his tux to the tips of his taps, boas and bow ties, fishnets and flesh, Orr guarantees a swanky, skanky, swinging, brassy, classy and sassy black-tie affair to remember, with new victims to be savaged and skewered by his lascivious, lacerating wit, unending gender-bending and quicksilver quick changes.
