The Un-Scripted Theater Company takes on scripts! Working with a different guest playwright at every performance, the Un-Scripters interview the playwright on stage and then perform a cold "staged" reading of the first scene of an unfinished play. Afterward, they spend the rest of the evening finishing the play - totally improvised and working without scripts - starting from, you guessed it, Act One, Scene Two.

This is a different format than what they've done previously. I thought it was great, funny and just what I expected from this group. I thought it started a bit slow. At some point it seemed the private investigator stopped reading lips very well because she was acting like she didn't understand not like she was deaf. The male fatale could have hammed it up a bit more especially when the playwright said to make fun of the stereotype. I was expecting a male Jessica Bunny. There was a part where there were three different scenes going on and I probably would have like more of that to see more of the other characters ie the boyfriends, Herr Redding and Detective Diaz.

Overall, I was laughing almost from the start. Dialogue was great, funny and the actors talented. As usual, popcorn and cookies were awesome. The room was a bit hot, probably from the lights and yeah, the fog machine would have been great.

I would have loved to see this "story line" again, perhaps in a future production.

As usual, the cast did a great job. Popcorn and cookies were awesome. Friday's show was one of the darker stories I've seen this group put on. I was riveted to my seat toward the end and thinking "no, no, no". It was funny and sad at the same time - a tribute to the human spirit and its will to survive.

My wife and I are season ticket holders for SF's Best of Broadway and A.C.T, and I will say that I enjoyed Act One's Improvisation as much as most of the big productions. The cast spun a very interesting story that hung together remarkably well. Talented group, enjoyable evening, intimate theater setting. Well worth it!

It was very entertaining. It is always fun to watch actors improvise. Also, being such a small venue, you really feel connected to the story that is unraveling before you.
