Acting Out - For the Health of It, a Variety Show Benefitting Breast Cancer Action
Breast Cancer Action presents this fun and provocative evening filled with bold female performers who all share a commitment to women's health. Join over 250 activists, community members and Bay Area show goers to an event that will not only entertain, but provide a way for people to take action against the breast cancer epidemic. Acting Out - For the Health of It
features a line-up of talented performers including award-winning author and solo performer Tania Katan, who will read an except from her memoir My One-Night Stand With Cancer
, comedy from Eloisa Bravo and Nurse Allison Whittaker plus a reading by author Melanie Gideon (The Slippery Year
). The evening's entertainment also includes bluegrass music from Melody Walker and acrobatic hoop dancing by $hredder. Award-winning comedian and lung cancer survivor René Hicks (diagnosed due to the exposure to secondhand smoke in comedy venues) emcees this benefit event that promises to be entertaining and thought provoking.

Marimba music, ballet-infused folklorico dance, accordion-fueled norteño music and other musical performance styles from Mexico, El Salvador, Chile and beyond come together for Monsignor Romero: A Unity Song. Celebrating the life and foundation of the great Catholic activist Óscar Romero, Brava Theater Center presents such exhilarating Latin performers as Mexican political singer-songwriter Francisco Herrera, Chilean cellist and folk singer Mochi Parra and El Salvadoran dance sensations Ballet Teatro Mauricio Bonilla, performing for the first time in the U.S. from their homeland. Part of the proceeds (25%) go toward helping fund a statue of Monsignor Romero in Rome and advancing the cause of hope, love and unity. Learn More
