The line was around the block, however with the will-call tix, my group got in a received a good upfront table. They enjoyed the performance and a few had seen Mike Epps before- 1 of the ladies requested a hug and he obliged.
I went in thinking that "He was not my type of funny" (..seen him in a few movies), however he won me over by adding a little Bay Area elements to the act for personalization, plus he's in my age bracket, so I did relate to most of the comedy.
There were 3 Caucasian and 1 African-American drunk buddies in the front row who apparently came to be disrespectful and rude- Mr. Epps incorperated them into the act and put them in their places :) -- I point out their ethnicity only because they were borderline racist in their remaks and heckling --
Mr. Epps offered and made good on picture taking with all who were interested. I will share a pic.
Comedian and actor Mike Epps has generated quite a buzz among his peers and within the industry for being one of the funniest comedic actors emerging in the Hollywood spotlight. Mike is currently on his own national comedy tour, “Mike Epps: On the Edge” which is selling out major concert venues across the country. It was recently announced that HBO will develop “The Unsuccessful Thug,” a half-hour comedy series based on Mike’s experiences growing up in Indianapolis and occasionally running afoul of the law. Mike is also scheduled to portray Richard Pryor in the upcoming biopic of the comedic legend’s life.
Mike is perhaps best known for his roles as “Day-Day” opposite Ice Cube in both Next Friday and Friday After Next. He teamed up again with Ice Cube in All About the Benjamins, and went on to star in The Fighting Temptations, Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse and most recently, The Honeymooners, Roll Bounce, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins and Something New. Epps has also appeared in Bait with Jamie Foxx, had a cameo in How High with Method Man and Redman and was the voice of Sonny in Dr. Doolittle 2. He also appeared on the Def Comedy Jam tour and has starred in two of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam broadcasts.
