Fastest standing-O I've seen in a while...TiVo the Olympics and get down to YBCA for a gold medal performance.Written on Feb 20 2010
Walked away feeling a connection with each of the eight dancers--the stories are personal and it shows.
75 minutes, no intermission...enough humor and action to appeal to kids (delighted squeals from the 5 and 7 year olds behind me) and my husband, who has been known to sleep through performances. He especially loved the music and wants to go back tonight!

I have only attended two modern dance performances in my life before this one. I LOVED IT! The choreography and the "narrative" were wonderful. The dancing was exceptional! I especially loved that the performers answered audience questions after the performance. I recommend this performance to connoisseurs of dance and novices like me.Written on Feb 22 2010

Description
San Francisco Performances and YBCA join together to present celebrated Bangladeshi-British choreographer Akram Khan, who brings bahok to San Francisco. Named after a Bengali word meaning ‘carrier’, bahok explores the ways in which the body carries national identity and a sense of belonging. Eight dancers from diverse cultures, traditions and dance backgrounds – Chinese, Korean, Indian, Slovakian, South African and Spanish – act out their attempts to communicate through dramatic dance and spoken vocabulary as they wait out their airport limbo, their destination unknown.
Khan joins forces with long-time musical collaborator Nitin Sawhney, renowned for his multi award-winning compositions, who has created an original score for bahok. Originally a collaboration between the Akram Khan Company and the National Ballet of China, bahok is dance and storytelling inspired by the exploration of cultural identity in a globalised world.
