The author of numerous acclaimed novels and the play Death and the Maiden lived in Europe, then America, before returning to Chile when democracy was restored in 1990. Dorfman now divides his time between Chile and the United States, where he is a professor at Duke University.

Description

The 1973 military coup that deposed President Salvador Allende sentenced his cultural advisor Ariel Dorfman to a life of exile. Dorfman (Death and the Maiden) is joined by pre-eminent cultural critic Ilan Stavans to discuss Feeding on Dreams, a new memoir of the transformative decades that followed Dorfman’s flight from Pinochet’s death squads to Europe, the United States and then, at last, back to Chile in a yearned-for return with an unimaginable outcome.
