Wow... first time I have gone and it was sold out. I have attended about 5 performances here... seems I always go on Spontaneous Broadway night. The cast is talented and the night moves along quickly. Parking is easy in the nearby waterfront lot...continued

Description

Fridays in June, 2014: Theatresports: Battle to Play LA
Theatresports™ is a fast-paced, exciting, and highly interactive night of improvised theater complete with Olympic-style judges. Each show is unique and always full of hilarious surprises; you can expect lots of variety and audience participation. For this tournament, the BATS Main Stage Company has split into six teams, each team competing for the honor to represent San Francisco in the SF vs. LA Grudge Match in August. Every Friday in June and July, two teams will face off by performing a variety of scenes, games, and even musical numbers — all completely improvised and all inspired by your suggestions! The team with the most points at the end of the match is declared the winner and moves one step closer to the Championship Match on July 25.

Saturdays in June, 2014: Double Feature
A cast of four talented improvisers and one musician spontaneously and simultaneously create two distinct “films,” each unique in genre, tone, and character, and each inspired by an original title supplied by the audience. In addition to presenting two great, fully improvised stories, Double Feature™ adds fun and excitement as the improvisers must play multiple characters (often in the same scene) as they bounce back and forth between two stories. Created by Company Member Rafe Chase, Double Feature, is one of BATS most popular shows.

Saturdays in July, 2014: Warp Speed
These are the voyages of a Starship to be named by you, the audience! Its mission: to explore new characters, to seek out new dangerous and intense relationships, and to boldly go where no improv has gone before! Warp Speed is a completely improvised salute to that classic sci-fi TV series of the ’60s. Instead seeing Kirk and Spock (or spoofs of Kirk and Spock), your suggestions will beam aboard an all-new crew of characters, created and introduced on the spot!

August 1-2, 2014: Improvised Downton Abbey
Secrets. Rivalries. Romance. Enter the world of a privileged but troubled estate in the early 20th century in this completely improvised period story told in the style of Downton Abbey. You won’t see Sybil, Matthew, or Violet, but rather new characters created on the spot by our world-class improvisers — each inspired by your suggestions.

August 8-9, 2014: Improvised Shakespeare
In 1989 BATS Improv performed the very first full-length Improvised Shakespeare in San Francisco (and perhaps the entire West Coast). Celebrate the 25th anniversary of this landmark performance with two nights of Improvised Shakespeare as part of our 2014 Summer Improv Festival.

Shakespeare didn’t write these stories — but you’ll think he did! Starting with a title chosen by you, the audience, our merry band of improvisers will create a full-length play in the style and language of The Bard. No two shows are ever the same, but every show is a great night of improvised Shakespearean theater. What are you waiting for? Get thee to the theater and experience the magic that is BATS Improvised Shakespeare.
