The first play "Rough for Theatre " was quite different from the other two. It had action and dialog. It was challenging and interesting. The two characters, stuck in their own heads, ended up in ... instead of ...Written on Jan 28 2009
(I don't want to spoil the ending.)
The second play "Footfals" was more of what I recall as Beckett. Very slow, methodical, repetetive. It made it's point. But I was a bit impatient.
The third play "Come and Go" as not quite as tedious as the second.
I must say that all three plays were accessible to me only because I'm 65 years old. I remember seeing Beckett when very much younger and found him inscrutable.
The acting was fine. The set was starkly appropriate.
I like this sort of theater.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this show, I haven't gone to a lot of theater, especially on the west coast. I wish I had gone earlier to recommend it to more people before the run ended. This was my first Beckett performance and I thought the acting was very well done. My only complaint was the noise. I could clearly hear the performance going on in the other theater.Written on Jan 30 2009

any chance to see (or hear) A.J. Davenport should be taken. The performers are generally good to excellent, and the plays are moving and provocative.Written on Jan 12 2009

The first play, "Rough for Theatre I," has echoes from Beckett's "Endgame." The cripple asks the blind man, "Why don't you let yourself die?" and the blind man replies, "I am not unhappy enough!" The play ends, but it has no ending. Perhaps it is "rough" as in "unfinished." Very entertaining, fine performances. The second play, "Footfalls," is helped out of its baffling obscurity by the splendid performance of AJ Davenport. She is heard but not seen, and plumbs the text for its poetry with her beautifully modulated voice. "Come and Go" is the briefest and best of the 3 pieces, a total delight. Recommended.Written on Jan 12 2009
