Bravo! for this wonderful performance piece. It is not very often in today's world that dance can evoke sociopolitical passion - this is such a the piece. The company were diverse and in great naturalistic form.Written on Oct 06 2009

One of the most powerful evenings of dance I have seen in a long time. Lyrical choreography, stunning dance, powerful political questions and themes. An evocative and insightful evening of dance theatre, movement, drama and music. If you get a chance to see this, GO!!Written on Oct 02 2009

Bill T. Jones! What can one say to add to his attributes. It was an most interesting evening of dance, the spoken word, song, staging, politics and humanity woven into a single fabric. Bravo to Jones and the entire troupe and cast.Written on Oct 02 2009

Description
In celebration of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company’s 25th anniversary and the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, YBCA presents the West Coast premiere of Fondly Do We Hope… Fervently Do We Pray. Blending video, live music, movement and theater, Fondly Do We Hope navigates the ambiguous space where art, biography and history collide, profoundly expanding the palette of modern dance.
In this thought-provoking new work, Jones -- recipient of the 2007 Tony Award for Spring Awakening and recognized worldwide as a cultural trailblazer -- considers Lincoln's legacy and unrealized vision for the reconstruction of America, exposing that great distance between what is and what could have been.
