A smash hit in its New York run, Becky Shaw was written by Law & Order writer/producer Gina Gionfriddo. For the play's regional premiere, SF Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Amy Glazer directs Brian Robert Burns, Lee Dolson, Lorri Holt, Liz Sklar and Lauren English in the title role. Learn More

really appreciated their attempt to perform this lavish musical in a small theater, but i found the tight space just too constraining. the dance numbers were visibly squished and doubling the actors for the orchestra seemed to compromise both the acting and the music. a brave and respectable showing but would not recommend.Written on Jul 04 2008

Simply fantastic ! The actors,sets,choreography,music,costumes,staging.........I can't find one fault. Beautifully dark and smolderingly sexual; ah,it couldn't last. It will make you think of how little as a whole the human race has advanced in their treatment of eachother: the present is still repeating the past.Written on Jun 26 2008
I'll definitely go again.

Cabaret performed as it should be!Written on Aug 20 2008
The obvious effort put into the ambiance of this production was much appreciated. We had seats at one of the front row bistro tables, ordered up a bottle of wine and enjoyed every minute of this extremely intimate production. Any closer to the actors and you'd have to introduce yourself... but it doesn't take away from the show at all - as it easily could.
Probably some of the best theater I've seen in San Fran since I moved here a couple years ago.

The play was fantastic. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was because we were in the last row and the seats were squeezed in leading me to compare it to an airplane coach seat. It was also very hot up there which unfortunately took away from my enjoyment of the show.Written on Sep 22 2008

Description
Book by Joe Masteroff
Lyrics by Fred Ebb
Music by John Kander
Directed by Bill English
“What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play!” John Kander and Fred Ebb’s legendary landmark musical turns Weimar Berlin of 1931 into a dark and sexually charged haven of decadence where its extraordinary and morally ambiguous inhabitants are determined to keep up appearances as the real world-outside the comfortable sanctuary of the cabaret- prepares for the nightmarish chaos of war. It is here that Sally Bowles performs nightly at the infamous Kit-Kat Klub in “a shimmering masterpiece of a show guaranteed night after night. Its divine decadence darling!”
About the Ticket Supplier: SF Playhouse
The aim of the SF Playhouse is to provide a creative home and inspiring environment where actors, directors, writers, designers and theater lovers converge to create works that celebrate the human spirit. Founded by Bill English and Susi Damilano in 2003, SF Playhouse is Union Square's intimate, professional theatre. Using professional actors and world-class design, the SF Playhouse -- which won the Bay Guardian's 2006 Best Off Broadway Theatre Award and about which the San Francisco Chronicle raved "San Francisco's newest theatre isn't just another tiny stage carved out of a storefront...it's an enticing introduction to a new company" -- has become an intimate theatre alternative to the traditional Union Square theatre fare, garnering 20 Bay Area Theatre Critic nominations in its first year.
