Paul Robeson was a famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner. When over the years he became too radical and outspoken for the establishment's liking, he was branded a traitor, harassed and denied opportunities to perform or travel. This play is a roller coaster journey through Robeson's remarkable and eventful life, featuring some of his songs and speeches, including a dramatic rendition of "Ol' Man River."

Great portrayal and music! The only bad part was when some of the audience started to sing along--how rude!

About the Ticket Supplier: Tayo Aluko and Friends Ltd.

The company stages performing arts events which promote Africa, African artists and African descendants in a more positive light than the mainstream media typically presents.

These have included readings of Call Mr. Robeson, singing concerts and the production of six 15-minute plays by emerging Black writers about ancient Africa, under the collective name "The Amber Chronicles".

These were performed at Unity Theatre Liverpool and Zion Arts Centre Manchester in October 2006.

The series is planned to become an annual, nationwide event aimed at schools, colleges and theatres, and is expected to contribute to the fight against racism and to counter poor self-esteem among young black people by rediscovering African history prior to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
