90 minutes of pure pleasure! Chita Rivera defies her age and shows you how all of the many famous songs she created on stage were meant to be sung. Her energy never slowed during the set. Perhaps the best performance we've seen in years. If you love musicals, you'll love this show.

The Iconic, Incomparable, Incandescent, Inimitable Chita Rivera! I consider myself very lucky for this opportunity to see Miss Rivera in such an intimate setting as the Rrazz Room. This was my second visit in three weeks, and I really enjoyed myself. The acoustics are Incredible and the cost can't (nearly) be beat! I had a nearly-unobstructed view-except for the very large headed man in front of me. I just scooted over a little.
Of course, there were the ubiquitous "Chita devotees" who sang along and included hand gestures with ever song (and they were very distracting), but more alarming was the service I received from my waiter. There's a two drink minimum so I ordered a $12 cocktail, but I planned to order a bottle of still water on my next round. Suddenly, he's coming along with another cocktail! BAD. I asked him why he brought it, and he said there was a 2 drink minimum. I said that I knew that but I was planning to order something different (and less pricey). So, he took my order for the small bottle of still water and said that I could "enjoy" the cocktail. GOOD. He brought me a bottle of water, but it was sparkling. BAD. Which I detest.
So, in my first trip the service was fine, and the second trip the service was not so fine. This teaches me to order both drinks up front and remove the mystery for the waitstaff.

In 50 years or so, it's gonna change you know. But Chita is still so much fun. Cute as can be...and enough energy to fill a room 100 times the size of the Rrazz! A terrific show from start to finish. We loved it! I hope I have half her power when I'm that age!

I really didn't know what to expect and was VERY pleasantly surprised! Chita Rivera is around 75 years old and she's got so much energy! I was smiling throughout the entire performance except a couple times during very moving and emotional numbers. She's a great actress. We had AMAZING seats right up front only about 6' away from the microphone! She's a class act all the way (and looks even better in real life than she does in pix!). HIGHLY recommended!

Beyond my expectations. Went on a Thursday night and the room was only half full - this should be a standing room only event! You don't need to even know who Chita is to enjoy this event - Throughly entertaining.
The Best!

This was, by a wide margin, the best show ever to grace the stage of the Rrazz Room. Chita Rivera is amazing; Gorgeous, ageless, endlessly talented, glowingly effervescent, overflowing with genuine warmth, joy and humanity - every bit as dynamic and brilliant as she was 50 years ago when she played Anita in the original production of "West Side Story." Her connection with the audience was also a wonder to behold. Upon entering the room she wrapped them in her embrace and held them to her heart until she left the room, 90 far-too-short and incredible minutes later. Astonishing!!!

WOW! A brilliant vibrant performer giving us 200% in a charming show. A talented pro backed up by a great trio. A rare chance to see Chita in an intimate setting, don't miss this one.
Too often the Razz room books tired has-beens in sloppily put together "acts", not the case here! Bravo for presenting a real artist that knows how to put on a show.

This is probably the best cabaret show that I have ever seen. She is a thorough professional with a well balanced show of beautifully performed songs. Can she really be 75? You'd never know it. She is just as saucy and vibrant as ever. It was my first time to the Razz Room. It is a very intimate, well appointed (and ventilated - as opposed to the Plush Room) venue. I will certainly go again.

I've seen Chita in three Broadway musicals, and twice in her one-woman shows, and this show at the Rrazz Room was my favorite of all. Great song selection, good patter, and terrific performing. Go see this one!!!!

If you have a need to relieve the depression and stress of the current political/economic conditions surrounding us today , I strongly recommend you rushed to THE RRAZZ ROOM and let CHITA RIVERA make your life worthwhile in so many ways. This theater legend gives over an hour and half of musical treats and entertaining commentary on her life and those that have contributed to her success. While there is limited space for dancing, she makes the most of the area with incredible body moves accompanied by three great musicians sharing a musicical love affair. Chita has played very few small rooms, but shes gets up close & personal in this show, giving everyone a memorable evening! Check her out before she closes on Oct. 5.

I feel so lucky to have been able to see this exciting entertainer in such an intimate environment. I have seen her on stage several times but this was one of my favorite times. On display during her last show of the run was her great heart and love of Broadway. She brought tears to my eyes on her last encore.

What an honor to experience again one of the great talents of the American musical theater--Chita Rivera! Chita has set the performance standard at the highest level it gets! Talk about musicals during the Golden Age--I'm sure that those who didn't see her in her Broadway shows got a wonderful experience is seeing this performer still at her peak. I met her after the show and reminded her of one of her producers for Birdie, and she was as charming and gracious as she was onstage. Viva Chita. I'll be in NYC to see her in the Visit as soon as it is announced. Many of you may remember seeing the Lunts in the SF production. Can't wait to see what Chita will do. :)

She was great! Nothing like her around! Sensational act! One of the very best cabaret acts ever with great arrangements and musicians and tons of energy! Well paced, and she gave her full house audience what they wanted...a wide spectrum of showbiz pizazz. And her dramatic songs were skillfully executed demonstrating what a great actress she is! Can't wait to see her again!

What can you say when this cabaret act was so perfectly delightful!
From the moment Chita appeared she was just sensational!! Going through her career was a great journey in song and some dance!! What a legend and long may she reign. I loved her when I first saw her when I was 17 years old in West Side Story (1957)!!! One of the best cabaret shows I have seen in ages!!!!

Rrazz Room is tiny and fun, Chita was younger than her years (74!!!!) and put on a great show. Drinks are too pricey, but it's their bread & butter, so...

I went in to this with rather low expectations. Chita was great. She can still sell a song but most of all she is living theater history. She did segments from shows where she originated the role. It's rare to see a Broadway star of stature up close and personal. Great experience.

FANTASTIC SHOW!!!!! Don't miss this opportunity to see one of the great talents--Chita is a multi-faceted treasure, as reported in the Chronicle. Terrific band, too (always the unsung heroes with a star like this. She gives them a lot of credit.) Delightful show in this wonderful intimate venue. Can't believe that this show isn't sold out every night---it should be. You MUST go!

More Information
Chita Rivera began her ballet training at age eleven in her native Washington, D.C. After moving to New York with her family five years later, her career began when she auditioned for famed choreographer George Balanchine. Chita won a scholarship from "Mr. B." to the American School of Ballet, and began taking classes with dancers like Edward Villella, Melissa Hayden, Allegra Kent and Maria Tallchief. One day the budding ballerina accompanied a friend who went to audition for a chorus role in Call Me Madam. Chita won the role instead. Ballet lost and Broadway gained the 17-year-old who would make theatre history.
After completing a cross-country tour of Call Me Madam as a principal dancer, she returned to New York to replace Onna White as a principal dancer in Guys and Dolls. Chita then went on to appear in the original Broadway production of Can-Can in which her future co-star, Gwen Verdon, first achieved stardom. Chita went Off-Broadway to prove she could do more than dance, and did so with her amazing performance in Ben Bagley's Shoestring Revue (in which she did a devastating Marilyn Monroe impersonation). This talented company also included Beatrice Arthur and Arte Johnson. Chita then returned to Broadway as a featured performer in Seventh Heaven choreographed by Peter Gennaro and Mr. Wonderful which starred Sammy Davis Jr.
Then Chita Rivera made theatrical history with her performance as Anita in West Side Story. After opening night (September 26, 1957) Chita was a Broadway star. She attained London stardom in the same role after "time out" for the birth of her daughter Lisa Mordente. Chita had married Tony Mordente, who played Arab in West Side Story, during the Broadway run. The London opening was postponed until Chita could join the company. After a year as the toast of London, Chita returned to Broadway to star opposite Dick Van Dyke in Bye Bye Birdie -- the musical in which she led the show stopping "Shriners' Ballet." Then it was back to Her Majesty's Theatre in London, scene of her West Side Story triumph, to repeat her role as Rosie in the British production of Birdie. Next came a triumph as Jenny in the national tour of Threepenny Opera, closely followed by the title role in Bob Fosse's Sweet Charity national tour.
It was while making the film version of Charity (in which she played Nicky opposite Shirley McLaine) that Chita fell in love with Los Angeles and made it her home base for the next seven years. But she frequently left home: Chita played Billie Dawn in Born Yesterday, was Serafina in The Rose Tattoo, toured opposite John Raitt in Zorba and extended her range in such productions as Kiss Me Kate opposite Hal Linden, Jacques Brel, and Oliver Hailey's Father's Day. Chita had been away from Broadway for eight years, too long for fans and friends such as Fred Ebb, John Kander and Bob Fosse who lured her back to star as Velma Kelly opposite Gwen Verdon in the smash hit musical Chicago. As soon as she arrived in New York, Chita learned that the show's rehearsals were postponed because Fosse was ill. Her pal Fred Ebb, who had written her highly successful nightclub act in the '60s, went to work on another act in the meantime. The new act opened at New York's Grand Finale to rave reviews and capacity crowds. The Times called Chita "The most exciting nightclub performer in the business; a singer who essays a ballad with consummate skill and has a sense of humor!" Chicago opened to glorious reviews, and all was smooth until Gwen Verdon's departure from the cast for five weeks. It was then that Chita first worked with Liza Minnelli who had stepped in for Miss Verdon. A little later Chita starred opposite Donald O'Connor in the Birdie sequel Bring Back Birdie and then as the Evil Queen in Merlin. She gained her fourth and fifth Tony Award nominations for those performances.
1984 brought Chita back together again on Broadway with Liza in The Rink, and it was for that performance that the long awaited Tony Award came, as did the Drama Desk Award. Not long after that Chita starred on Broadway in Jerry's Girls with Leslie Uggams and Dorothy Louden. In January of '88 Chita did a national tour of Can-Can co-starring no less than the Radio City Musical Hall Rockettes. Chita's club act and concert dates continue to play to outstanding reviews and ovations from packed houses. Recently she did a sold out, smash hit engagement at Miami's Coconut Grove, rivaled only by her glorious gig at L.A.'s Westwood Playhouse that was extended twice, closing in January of '92.
Chita began her television career by appearing on every major show emanating from New York including the Dinah Shore, Gary Moore and Ed Sullivan shows. She has amassed an impressive list of TV credits including the Showtime special presentation of Pippin, Kennedy Center Tonight, Broadway Plays Washington', her own Chita Plus Three and a terrific edition of Live From Wolftrap. Chita is especially proud of her participation in the National Theatre of the Deaf s presentation of The Road to Cordoba. Recipient of numerous awards and honors, and star of many theatre, nightclub and television productions, Chita Rivera, who now makes her home in Westchester, NY, names her daughter, Lisa Mordente, as her most treasured production.
